That’s all the news this week. Be back next week for a news recap.
Welcome to 2017 everyone. Lots of various announcements and news bits to get to so let’s get started.
We start with the biggest news of the week the in-depth reveal of the Nintendo Switch. In a presentation Thursday night Nintendo revealed the price, details, and games coming to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s new console launches on March 3rd and will retail for $299.99. The Nintendo Switch will come in two different colors gray, and neon, both retailing for the same price (Note that only the Joy-Con controllers change color). Each bundle will include two Joy-Con controllers, a TV dock, the console itself, and an AC adapter. Thirty-two gigabytes of internal memory will come with the Switch and you can add more storage via a Micro SD card. You can use the Nintendo Switch in three different play modes. Dock mode has you playing like a normal console as the tablet sits in the dock hooked up to your TV and you play using the Joy-Con controllers attached to the Joy-Con grip controller. Portable mode is when the tablet is undocked and you attach the Joy-Cons to the sides and play as a portable handheld. Lastly, is the tabletop mode where you can undock the tablet and have it sit on a surface while you play with the Joy-Con controllers unattached to the system. From tabletop mode, you can use both controllers or give one to a friend to play multiplayer. When the console is not docked Nintendo said you should get about two and a half to six and a half hours of battery life depending on the game but the Switch uses a USB Type-C connector so you could use a powerbank or charger. Docked the console will output at 1080p resolution on the TV (this is unclear, it might be 900p or around there) and when not docked the tablet will have 720p resolution. Switch’s screen is a multi-touch touchscreen as well. Nintendo also revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch on the same day as Switch and will also be available on the Wii U. A new online service was also announced that will have chat features, discounts, and monthly free games. Nintendo offered little more details on the service except that it will launch in the fall and you will have to pay for the service. Besides the console, a slew of new games was announced including Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Skyrim. A full list of games shown below and I’ll link some of the trailers for them.

Looking back at last week’s news we have an incredible new update to No Man’s Sky, the details on December’s Games With Gold, and much more.
No Man’s Sky received what developer Hello Games is calling the “Foundation” update. In this new updated version, there is the ability to build bases, a new faster menu system, multiple game modes, farming, and so much more. To learn about all the new features and see them in action check out Hello Game’s video explaining it all here. It is called foundation because Hello Games says it is the foundation of multiple future updates that are going to come to No Man’s Sky.
Pokemon Go got a new update this week adding a few new features. First off you can now catch Ditto, the 151st Pokemon in the game. To obtain Ditto you simply have to catch any normal type Pokemon. There is a chance that one of the normal type Pokemon is a Ditto in disguise and will transform upon being captured. The nearby system also received an update. Now the tracker will only appear if you are near a PokeStop. Once around PokeStops, Pokemon will appear in the tracker. You can select a Pokemon from the tracker and it will pinpoint which PokeStop near you that Pokemon is hanging around. Also until the end of November Pokemon Go is offering up double XP.
Titanfall 2 will be getting its first batch of free DLC on November 30th. In it will be a new map called Angel City, new Titan kits, weapons, and more.

That is all the XP you get today, come back next week for more.
I have more No Man’s Sky to play so let’s get through this past week’s news, shall we!
Sony has announced that they are holding a meeting on September 7th in New York City. From what I have seen many journalists and industry insiders have already received official invitations from Sony. The topic at hand is supposed to be the reveal of the PlayStation Neo, Sony’s new 4k console. This is exciting as we are less than a month away from seeing it and all we know so far are unconfirmed rumors. What will be interesting to see is if Sony will postpone the rumored October launch for the Neo in order to beef up the console so that it can compete with Xbox’s Scorpio. We won’t know until September 7th but I am hoping we get all of our questions answered. I think the Neo is a great idea but Sony has been quiet too long and the silence is starting to hurt them. People need to be reassured that the Neo is something that is good for consumers. We will see on the seventh what happens.
For the first time in a long time, the Xbox One outsold the PS4 for the month of July. The Xbox One is seeing some of the lowest prices around. This is because they wanted to slash prices before they launched their new Xbox One S in August. The PS4 has been the beating the Xbox One since the consoles launched and only a few times has the Xbox One pulled ahead. It is a nice win for Microsoft and we will see if their new S model can pull in old and new consumers. I actually just purchased my first 4k TV and I will be getting an S sometime soon. Look for that later on.
Destiny 2 seems to be real as this week an artist let leak a few pieces of artwork from the upcoming game. It is nothing to drool over as it is mostly vague silhouettes of new classes. The most telling image is the number two that is emblazed. It seems the next Destiny will, in fact, carry a two after it, making it Destiny 2. Hopefully, they change a lot more than just the number as there were a lot of complaints about Destiny when it launched. Destiny 2 is slated to release holiday season 2017.
That is it for this week! I am currently playing No Man’s Sky so look for a Quality Time on that soon. As I mentioned I will also be getting an S model Xbox probably within a months time so that will come after No Man’s Sky. See you all next week!
The news picked up a bit this week as we head into the fall gaming season. Let’s get to it.
No Man’s Sky is releasing this Tuesday (August 9th) and the game has already been leaked. Early on this week consumers were able to get their hands on early copies of the game. Many posted videos of gameplay and one person even managed to record what happens when you get to the center of the universe. Developer Hello Games has said that the servers will be wiped just before the release of the game this Tuesday. Also, no early review copies have been sent out so don’t expect reviews and scores to roll out until the end of the week. Personally, I am very excited about this game. It has been a long time coming and I want to get it relatively soon in order to do a Quality Time on the game. Once I get the game and get a myriad of hours in I will get that posted.
Inside, which was released a few weeks ago on Xbox, is coming to PS4 on August 23rd. Inside comes from developer Playdead who also brought us Limbo a few years ago. When it released earlier it was met with critical appraise. This is another game I really want to play and I will try and get a Quality Time up as soon as I can.
Looking just ahead, and getting into the actual fall season, the Xcom 2 console release has been delayed three weeks. Originally slated for a September 9th release it has been pushed back to September 27. I played the first Xcom and absolutely loved it. It’s a very challenging and rewarding game. This is the first fall game that is on my must-get list and I am very excited for it.
Some very good games coming soon to kick off the fall season! Let’s look at a few news tidbits from this week.
Nintendo isn’t looking to repeat the mistakes it made with the Wii U with its new console the NX. What mistakes you may ask? The lack of first-party games and third-party support. Apparently, within the first six months of the NX’s release, we will get a Mario game and a Pokemon game. Which if true is great because we know the console will launch with the new Zelda game. Not only that but it appears that Nintendo has been busy locking in third-party support. All of this is great news. The Wii U had only a small number of first-party games and they were few and far between. It also had terrible third-party support. This gets my hopes up for the NX, though we still don’t have any confirmation about the NX and its specs. I really hope they pull through. It has been a long while since we saw a Pokemon game on a Nintendo console. Could it be the one we always asked for? Time will tell.
Lastly, Niantic, creators of Pokemon Go, released a letter to fans this week letting players know they have heard all their cries and frustrations. In the letter, they specifically mention the tracker and reassure players they are working hard on getting it fixed. They mainly wanted to let players know that moving forward they will be communicating more and better with the community. This is great news as we have been left wondering what they are doing with their time. To be fair though they seem to be working hard to fix users complaints. Which is very admirable.
That is all this week see you next week!
This week will be brief since I had to move apartments last week and it took up most of my time. Anyways, let’s get to it.
A new Pokemon Go update was released last night that changed quite a few things. You can now customize your trainer whenever you want, a few animations have been tweaked, some bugs while catching Pokemon have also been fixed and the footprints used to track Pokemon have been completely eliminated. Everything seems for the better except for doing away with the footprint tracker. If you have been playing Pokemon Go you know the footprint hasn’t been counting down the footprints the closer you get as it should. Getting rid of the footprints just leaves trainers in the same position. It doesn’t make the tracking harder but it also doesn’t really address the problem. To make matters actually bad is the fact that Niantic has been cracking down on third-party tracking apps like Pokevision. Which was absolutely fantastic since it was so accurate. Updates are supposed to make games better after all.
Nintendo’s next console codenamed the NX had more than a fair share of rumors leak. The rumors describe a handheld that can be attached to a dock that allows for play on the TV. If this is true then the handheld has to have pretty intense specs to be able to compete with current consoles, which Nintendo has claimed it will. There is another interesting rumor that the sides of the handheld will be detachable. Both side pieces essentially contain the buttons and triggers used to play games. This means that when you detach them you are basically left with a tablet. These are still both rumors and we still no close to nothing about the NX. In fact, these two rumors can’t seem to both be true since it would be putting a lot of pressure on the handheld/console.
That is all for this week and hopefully next week the news begins to pick up as we move closer to the fall gaming season. Until next time, play on.
